Beta-amyloid 1-40
Beta-Amyloid 1-40 - a major component of amyloid plaques
Sequential proteolytic cleavage of the Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP) by secretases (α, b, g) generates beta-Amyloid peptide fragments, of which beta-Amyloid 1-42 forms a major component of amyloid plaques in neurons of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) brains.
beta-Amyloid 1-40 is the other major C-terminal variant of the Amyloid protein and is usually taken as a negative control when studying beta-Amyloid 1-42 effects in AD. Beta-Amyloid 1-40 is the primary soluble species with 10-fold higher secretion than that of beta-Amyloid 42 in normal brains.
Researchers study the deposition of beta-Amyloid 1-40 in AD brains in correlation to synaptic and neuronal loss in relation to biophysical aggregation states; microglial involvement in AD pathogenesis; detection of beta-Amyloid (1-40) and mutant species in CSF (for biomarker discovery) or in lipid vesicles to mimic biologic membranes; evaluate neuroprotective effects of natural and synthetic analogues against beta-Amyloid secretion and aggregation etc.
We offer one of the largest collections of beta-amyloid 1-40 peptides, including native and modified sequences, and specialized formulations, featuring our Aggresure™ and GMP grade (for in vitro use) beta-Amyloid 1-40. In addition, we provide a variety of fluorescently labeled peptides including those labeled with our HiLyte™ Fluor 488, HiLyte™ Fluor 555, and HiLyte™ Fluor 647 dyes. For your convenience, we also synthesize large single batches of native beta-amyloid 1-40 with high purity.
Selecting the most appropriate product depends on the application
- Our basic beta-Amyloid 1-40 is produced using proprietary chemistries and is released on two criteria only (mass and purity)
- For aggregation studies, we recommend using the pre-treated Aggresure™ beta-Amyloid 1-40. This is a proprietary pre-treatment allowing us to guaranty that the peptide will fibrillate and work in our Thioflavin T assay
- Should a non-treated but monomeric peptide be used, we recommend our GMP grade peptide.
